Atom JiuJitsu – New Cairo

BJJ in Africa

We I arrived in an Uber, finding Atom Jiujitsu wasn’t the easiest. I thought I had taken a wrong turn.

But the gym is actually located in a lovely residential estate in New Cairo, in the basement of a villa.

You can access the gym by a set of stairs and a side door.

Facilities

The facility itself is spotlessly clean!

There is an antibacterial dip for your feet before you step on the mat, which I appreciated very much.

The gym has two sides, one for BJJ & Grappling, completely covered with mat space. The other side has punchbags, a squat rack and a range of free weights including kettlebells.

The Washroom/Changing areas both come equipped with clean showers and toilets. And there is plenty of space for getting changed, and storing your stuff.

Staff

Sharaf the instructor actually went through drills in detail in both English and Arabic which was extremely helpful.

His meticulous attention to detail and friendly nature make him a real asset to the club and the members alike.

When we first arrived at the gym we were welcomed into the gym by Shawky, shown the changing facilities and given a tour of the gym.

All the people at Atom are really friendly and helpful, making for a great environment to learn and practice JiuJitsu in.

Experience

The warm up section of the class was pretty spot on, being not too short nor too long. The actual drilling section of the class was also around perfect length. This gave everyone enough time to hone their skills with the new moves.

If I had to suggest anything that could improve the session, I would ask that Sharaf ran through the first drill and then we practice it. Then he shows us number 2 and then practice and so on. As opposed to showing 3 techniques all at once and then practicing all 3.

But no one else in the class seemed to have any qualms with the way Sharaf was currently operating.

The team itself is stacked with an immense amount of talent, with everything from motivated beginners to seasoned killers. This is testament to the great coaching and atmosphere that Atom provides.

I have no doubt that they will continue to be successful in all their endeavours. Being one of the best, if not the best BJJ gyms that I’ve ever trained at.

Price

I paid £400EGP per person (£10.87) for the session, and it was worth every penny! I would highly recommend visiting for a roll if you’re in the Cairo area, hopefully I’ll be able to visit again soon.
