It was the night of England’s first group game in the World Cup. We were playing Iran, and I managed to find a gym to drop in for a roll before the game.
I messaged Nha Trang Sport Unite through Instagram, and they invited us down that night for a No Gi Class.
Here’s how it went.
Facilites
Based on the 6th Floor of a multi purpose building, the gym seemed more tended to Muay Thai in comparison to BJJ which is fine and to be expected.
We had to start out warm up drills on the mat section next to the main mats which wasn’t a big problem.
This was because there was a kid’s Muay Thai session that was finishing up as we got warmed up.
There was a place to fill water bottles, and we were given a free water bottle and a small towel upon arrival which was a nice touch.
And we got to make use of the one shower after practice which was decent enough.
Staff
An, one of the blue belt students in the class took the actual class as the BJJ teacher was preparing for an upcoming bout.
An was super knowledgeable for a blue belt, and was really patient with everyone when running through the techniques.
Also he didn’t feel the need to make anything feel inferior when rolling at the end, and just practiced his defence mainly.
This shows a good level of maturity.
This is something that goes a long way in a martial arts class.
Experience
Not the most structured and regimented class that I’ve ever been too, but the overall it was an enjoyable experience.
We started with a decent warm up, went into progressive drilling.
An the instructor taught us some neat details on Bicep Slicers, which I found incredibly useful.
And we finished with a round robin style rolling session. It was an enjoyable experience indeed.
Price
The class cost 160,000 Dong per session (£5.35 at time of writing), which was pretty fair for the session we had.
As a whole, I wouldn’t make specific plans to go out my way to visit Nha Trang Sport Unite.
However I would for sure go back to train here again if I were in Nha Trang.
